L Marks was founded in 2012 by serial entrepreneur Stuart Marks. We take a practical approach to the way we work by tailoring our programmes alongside some of the world’s best known brands including Arsenal FC, EDF Energy and BMW. As innovation specialists and investors, we build bridges between corporates seeking to innovate and young companies with disruptive tech.

Stuart Marks

Founder and Chairman

Stuart Marks is a serial entrepreneur who has built and sold four businesses over the past 25 years. They have spanned several sectors including CRM, location-based services and digital media. Every company applied innovation to challenge existing business models. Stuart has worked with a diverse and international customer-base including Sainsbury’s, British Airways, Unilever, Vodafone, BMW and various Government agencies across the world. His most recent exit was ITIS Holdings plc in 2011. The company was listed on the LSE and was Europe’s leading provider of real time traffic information and connected car technology and was the first company to commercialise crowd sourced data from GPS devices and mobile phone networks.

Daniel Saunders

Chief Executive Officer

Daniel Saunders is an experienced advisor in applied innovation having worked with dozens of global industry leaders, identifying and implementing pioneering technologies. Trained as a software engineer, he was part of the development team of Symbian OS (acquired by Nokia) and was a senior data analyst at Global Research and Consulting (acquired by ICAP). Prior to L Marks, Daniel served as Chief of Staff for Economic Development at the Israeli Embassy. A passionate advocate for authentic innovation, Daniel has invested in thirty-five early-stage companies globally.

Alexandra Gilbert

Chief Operating Officer

Alex Gilbert is an accomplished innovation professional with experience project managing innovation initiatives across corporate, social enterprise, government and international development settings. As Chief Operating Officer, Alex Gilbert leads on the oversight of day-to-day operations across the programme and scouting teams, whilst also making sure the L Marks team grows alongside our own rapid growth. Alex originally joined the L Marks team in early 2016 running both JLAB and BMW Innovation Lab and subsequently launched our scouting team.

Alessandro Allotta

Head of Scouting

Alessandro manages and leads the scouting team and the scouting process in all its phases. Alessandro previously worked for Startupbootcamp Insurtech as Lead scout and Investor relations manager, where he ran the scouting process and supported startups in their fundraising strategy. Passionate about startups and corporate innovation, Alessandro has a comprehensive knowledge of tech ecosystems development.

Alex Reynolds

Programme Associate

Alex is Programme Associate for the EDF Blue Lab programme. Before joining L Marks, Alex worked for a number of innovation bodies, researching corporate startup collaboration in London and fostering entrepreneurial culture in higher education institutions across Europe. Prior to this he worked for a London based accelerator, co-working space and seed stage investor, giving him great insight into the startup ecosystem.

Annie Butt

HR & Office Manager

As HR and Office Manager, Annie is responsible for all our core HR processes and oversees the day to day running of the London office. Before joining L Marks Annie lived and worked in Melbourne where she had experience of working for a successful online startup, giving her great insight into the needs of growing businesses.

Ben Thomas

Innovation Account Manager

As Innovation Account Manager, Ben is the lead relationship manager for several of our programmes. As an experienced programme manager, he has led on the delivery of BMW Innovation Lab programmes around the world and run both Hangar 51 from IAG and W2 Labs for Wincanton. Prior to L Marks, Ben worked as a project manager for Amey. In 2014 he started his own tech business, creating BluPark, a smart parking solution.

Caroline Komuhangi

Programme Associate

Caroline is Programme Associate on the Arsenal Innovation Lab Programme. Previously she has supported with the Travis Perkins BreakThru programme, MDR LAB, and the fourth instalment of JLAB. Before L Marks, Caroline worked in compliance at Deloitte but has always had an interest in social enterprise. She is on the board of the Young Funding network and has helped 100s of social enterprises with their fundraising.

Ella Martin

Head of Programmes

As Head of Programmes at L Marks, Ella has oversight of all programmes from launch through to review, supporting all Programme Managers and leading on the L Marks support offering. Previously, Ella was at THNK School of Creative Leadership in Amsterdam, supporting corporates and entrepreneurs in becoming innovation leaders. With 7 years’ experience in both corporate and startup environments, she is passionate about innovation and driving entrepreneurial success.

Ellie Gyaurova

Programme Manager

Having previously scouted for L Marks across several programmes, Ellie is now project managing BMW Innovation Lab. As a Startup Scout, Ellie was responsible for finding the best tech startups for John Lewis, IAG, Bupa, Travis Perkins, amongst others. Prior to L Marks, Ellie worked for London-based fintech company Earthport.

Emanuela Meini

Startup Scout

Emanuela is passionate about identifying opportunities for innovative startups to supercharge their growth through corporate collaboration. She previously worked at the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the UK and has a strong background within the startup ecosystem and international development.

Emma Marshall

Programme Manager, Manchester

Emma is Programme Manager for the United Utilities Innovation Lab programme. Prior to joining the L Marks team, Emma was Programme Coordinator at Mahuki, a cultural accelerator at the national museum of New Zealand, Te Papa. She is passionate about new technology and innovation and helping startups to thrive.

Fumio Sakurai

Programme Manager, Japan

Fumio is Programme Manager for BMW Innovation Lab (BMW Group Financial Services Japan). Prior to joining the L Marks team, Fumio worked in the banking and Fintech sectors, giving her insights on the Japanese market and supporting cross-border activities in the USA and Israel.

Jake Baldry

Programme Manager

Jake is the Programme Manager for intu Accelerate. Before joining L Marks he led on Business Development at DriveNow UK, the car sharing mobility concept from BMW. Prior to this he held Sales and Account Management roles with the financial services and consultancy areas.

Jess McGahan

Head of Brand

Jess is responsible for promoting and maintaining the L Marks brand. Jess joined L Marks in 2014 and help to create our first accelerator programmes as programme manager for JLAB, Last Mile Labs, WHLabs and Drive with Belron. From 2015-2016 Jess oversaw all programme operations as Head Of Programmes. She has also spent time working in the startup space in California.

Lara Halfon

Startup Scout

Lara is currently Startup Scout for MDR LAB. Previously she supported on the EDF Energy Blue Lab. She identifies and approaches the best startups in the market to connect them with our corporate partners and has past experience and a strong passion in technology and entrepreneurship. Lara has also been involved in the Israeli startup ecosystem.

Lucy Coutts

Programme Associate

Lucy is Programme Associate on the Drive with Belron programme. She has past experience working at two London based fintech companies; Beauhurst and Funding Circle. It was in these roles that she discovered an ongoing interest and expertise in the startup ecosystem.

Matteo Scarabelli

Head of Investment

As Head of Investment, Matteo ensures we make the smartest investments across all the programmes and also supports our portfolio in their growth. Previously, Matteo was Head of Startup Support, where he leveraged his broad experience of the startup world, drawing on past operational roles at VC-backed startups, and support for numerous startups from due diligence to further investment.

Meng Jiang

Programme Manager

Meng is the Programme Manager for the 2018 Drive with Belron programme. She has a background in investment management in Europe and Asia, and experience in social enterprise. Prior to joining L Marks, Meng was a strategist for a social innovation lab, where she advised various organisations from across the public, private and not-for-private sectors, and was awarded Fellowship from On Purpose.

Mina Begum

Scouting Manager

Mina's role at L Marks is to scout and establish relationships with market-leading startups and connect them with brands such as EDF, BMW and IAG. Mina is passionate about working closely with the startup ecosystem, and she has previously worked at different corporate accelerators.

Monique Rubins

Account Associate

As Account Associate, Monique supports Business Development and Programmes. Monique prepares Business Proposals for prospective clients across a range of sectors and works alongside Programme Managers to plan, facilitate and evaluate accelerator programmes. Prior to joining L Marks, Monique worked in publishing where she became especially interested in new technologies reshaping reading habits and outcomes.

Myrto Lalacos

Programme Associate, Manchester

Myrto started working with L Marks as Startup Support Intern on the JDWorks programme, and is now a Programme Associate for the Sky Betting and Gaming CoLab, and the United Utilities Innovation Lab. For several years, Myrto has been involved in the Manchester startup ecosystem and she aims to help make the North of England the Silicon Valley of the UK.

Paloma Muñoz Cano

Programme Manager, Spain

Paloma is Programme Manager for Nexus by DIA, our first programme outside the UK with Spanish retail group DIA. For the last 3 years, Paloma has been linked to the ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship helping companies and public organisations gain access to top talent, ideas and technologies.

Peter Akyol

Data and Investment Intern

As the data and investment intern at L Marks Peter has been working to maintain our startup database. He also helps our investment team to take care of our portfolio companies. He joins us straight out of university where he studied natural sciences.

Peter Cheung

Finance Manager

Peter is responsible for all the Finance functions at L Marks. He has extensive experience running Finance departments of SME's and Startups, having worked within diverse industries such as Management Consultancy, Communications and Network Technology and Satellite TV channel broadcasting.

Startup Support

Our startup support team are responsible for ensuring each of the startup teams are happy, and making the most of the experience. These guys help facilitate goals, track progress, manage relationships with mentors both internally and externally as well as build an ambience our startups are comfortable with. They help make great things happen.

Programme Team

Each of our programme managers have the ability to strategically analyse business challenges and build a programme that suits both the needs of our corporate and startup partners.
