L Marks was founded in 2012 by serial entrepreneur Stuart Marks. We take a practical approach to the way we work by tailoring our programmes alongside some of the UK’s best known brands including John Lewis, EDF Energy and IAG. As innovation specialists and investors, we aim to build bridges between corporates seeking to innovate and young companies with disruptive tech.

Stuart Marks

Founder & Chairman

Stuart Marks is a serial entrepreneur who has built and sold four businesses over the past 25 years. They have spanned several sectors including CRM, location-based services and digital media. Every company applied innovation to challenge existing business models. Stuart has worked with a diverse and international customer-base including Sainsbury’s, British Airways, Unilever, Vodafone, BMW and various Government agencies across the world. His most recent exit was ITIS Holdings plc in 2011. The company was listed on the LSE and was Europe’s leading provider of real time traffic information and connected car technology and was the first company to commercialise crowd sourced data from GPS devices and mobile phone networks.

Daniel Saunders

Chief Executive Officer

Daniel Saunders leads the L Marks team and is responsible for strategic direction of the company. Trained as a software engineer, Daniel started his career within the development team of the Symbian OS. He transitioned into the world of finance before being appointed Chief of Staff for Economic Development at the Israeli Embassy. For over a decade, Daniel has advised numerous multinationals on corporate innovation and startup disruption and similarly has worked with countless startups on developing their businesses, raising funding, ensuring strategic growth, and securing clients globally.

Liberty Mawhood

Chief Customer Officer

Liberty Mawhood oversees the creation and administration of programmes for all the corporate partners. Prior to L Marks, Liberty has worked on a number of different early-stage businesses such as bringing leadership courses to an online audience in China and creating the BAFTA award-winning Disney Animated, an app recognised by Apple as App of the Year when it was released.

Alexandra Gilbert

Operations Director

Alex Gilbert joined the L Marks team in early 2016 and took the helm as Programme Manager for our JLAB and BMW Innovation Labs and subsequently set up our scouting team. As Director of Delivery Alex leads on the strategy and oversight of day-to-day operations across the programme and scouting teams, whilst onboarding new partners and helping them to identify their innovation challenges. Before joining L Marks Alex built her project management experience across the corporate, social enterprise, startup lending and charity sectors.

Ella Martin

Head of Programmes

Ella has joined L Marks as Head of Programmes and has oversight of all programme activity and budgets. With a programme management background in government, not-for-profit, corporate and startup environments, she is passionate about innovation and driving entrepreneurial success.

Tom Somers

Programme Manager

Tom leads on our health and social programmes, working with third-sector and public sector bodies to design transformative programmes for startups in these areas. His previous experience is in financial planning and government policy implementation on health research.

Ben Thomas

Programme Manager

Ben is currently Programme Manager for the BMW Innovation Lab. Prior to L Marks, Ben worked as a project manager for Amey. In 2014 he started his own tech business, creating BluPark, a smart parking solution.

Nick Richards

Programme Manager

Nick has worked across a range of L Marks programmes, including BMW Innovation Lab, Hangar 51 from IAG, Capital One Growth Labs and Drive with Belron. Before joining L Marks, Nick supported the operations of a tech-based property startup.

Lavinia Hicks

Programme Manager

Lavinia has joined L Marks as Programme Manager to the fourth instalment of JLAB - L Marks' flagship programme with the John Lewis Partnership. Having previously worked for a fintech start up that specialised in disrupting the accounting industry, she has first hand experience in seeing the benefits of collaboration between tech startups and traditional corporates.

Pierre Baisle

Programme Manager

Pierre currently heads up the intuAccelerate programme with intu. Before joining L Marks, Pierre managed an angel investment network in Paris focusing on impact investment, before moving to London. He headed the programme for the Central Research Laboratory, daily mentoring startups aiming to design, scale up and bring to market quality hardware products. Pierre also supports and mentors SMEs in France, and is an advisor for several startups support structures projects there.

Prash Lagisetti

Programme Manager

Prash joined L Marks as Programme Manager for Arsenal Innovation Lab. He has spent the last 4 years building and working with startups, primarily in travel and e-commerce. Prior to his startup experience, Prash spent 11 years as a Portfolio Manager in Australia and London.

Lara Warren

Programme Associate

As Programme Associate, Lara is currently supporting startups on our intuAccelerate programme. Lara is passionate about how startups can contribute to their environments through reciprocal relationships and has previously been involved in various London based social enterprises.

Caroline Komuhangi

Programme Associate

As Programme Associate, Caroline has been supporting startups on our MDR Lab and JLAB programmes. Before L Marks, Caroline worked in compliance at Deloitte but has always had an interest in community development and has volunteered on projects for charities including Oxfam in the UK and FUMA in El Salvador.

Alex Reynolds

Programme Associate

As Programme Associate, Alex is supporting startups on our Bupa Blue Table programme. Alex has been involved in many startup support roles in the past and has an interest in the wider startup ecosystem and how to develop it further.

Paloma Muñoz Cano

Programme Manager, Spain

Paloma has joined L Marks as Programme Manager for Nexus by DIA with the Spanish retail group DIA. For the last 3 years, Paloma has been linked to the ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship, first as a Networking Manager for the awards MIT Innovators Under 35, the aim of which was to find the best young talent from all around the Latin American continent, and later as a Project Manager, helping organisations to create an ecosystem to guarantee access to top talent, ideas and technologies.

Emma Marshall

Programme Manager, Manchester

Emma joined the L Marks team as Programme Manager for the first United Utilities Innovation Lab programme. With extensive experience in events within the third sector, Emma had her first taste of working on an accelerator programme when she was Programme Coordinator at Mahuki, a cultural accelerator at the national museum of New Zealand, Te Papa.

Tom van Mourik

Programme Manager, Leeds

Tom has joined L Marks as Programme Manager for the Sky Betting and Gaming CoLab programme. For the last three years he has worked for a privately owned startup portfolio in London. Previous to this Tom lived in Brussels and Shanghai working for NGOs and a Corporate Social Responsibility consultancy.

Myrto Lalacos

Programme Associate, Manchester

Myrto started working with L Marks as Startup Support Intern on the JDWorks programme, and is now a Programme Associate for the Sky Betting and Gaming CoLab, and the United Utilities Innovation Lab. For several years, Myrto has been involved in the Manchester startup ecosystem and she aims to help make the North of England the Silicone Valley of the UK.

Laura Sanchez Gonzalo

Head of Scouting

Laura has extensive experience in managing innovation projects and supporting companies in the development of international plans. Previously, Laura worked at the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade as an innovation consultant. During her time at L Marks, Laura has also project managed our Capital One, EDF Energy,a nd Belron projects.

Mina Begum

Scouting Manager

Mina's role at L Marks is to scout and establish relationships with market-leading startups and connect them with brands such as EDF, BMW and IAG. Mina is passionate about working closely with the startup ecosystem, and she has previously worked at different corporate accelerators.

Elena Gyaurova

Startup Scout

Elena is responsible for finding and building relationships with startups from around the globe. With previous experience in financial sales, she introduces the most promising startups to our programmes and helps our partner find the most innovative solutions to their challenges.

Lorena Palacios

Startup Scout

With a Master's degree in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Management, Lorena has joined the scouting team at L Marks to discover and build strong relationships with startups around the world. She has a background in retail and the start up ecosystem as a Project and Strategy Manager.

Lara Halfon

Startup Scout

Lara's role at L Marks is to scout and approach innovative startups and connect them with our corporate partners. Over the past 3 years Lara has developed a passion for technology and startups, and has previously helped corporations to innovate by introducing them to the best startups in the market.

Matteo Scarabelli

Investment Manager

Matteo is working closely with the Chief Investment Officer, ensuring we make the smartest investments and support our portfolio in their growth. His previous role in L Marks was Head of Startup Support, where he leveraged his broad experience of the startup world, having led business development projects for venture-backed technology companies. He has worked with numerous startups and supported them from due diligence to further investment.

Edward Smith

Portfolio Support Manager

Edward supports startups across L Marks' programmes, tracking key targets and objectives to set them up for success in their relationship with our corporate partners and providing information and analysis to support investment decisions. He spends most of his free time working on side projects and discovering what other startups are working on outside of L Marks, with a particular interest in student startups and tech focused on improving human interaction.

Annie Butt

HR & Office Manager

Annie is responsible for all our core HR processes and oversees the day to day running of the London office. Before joining L Marks Annie lived and worked in Melbourne where she had experience of working for a successful online startup.

Startup Support

Our startup support team are responsible for ensuring each of the startup teams are happy, and making the most of the experience. These guys help facilitate goals, track progress, manage relationships with mentors both internally and externally as well as build an ambience our startups are comfortable with. They help make great things happen.

Programme Team

Each of our programme managers have the ability to strategically analyse business challenges and build a programme that suits both the needs of our corporate and startup partners. Not only do they execute every stage of the journey with finesse, they also expertly manage the relationship to ensure the fusion continues to be mutually beneficial.
